Oman to Award Salalah Airport Upgrade Contract

Oman will soon award a contract to a winning bidder for the modernisation of Salalah International Airport at a cost of OMR300m ($779m).

The lowest bid for the project has been submitted by a joint venture of Larsen & Toubro and Galfar Engineering & Contracting, followed by the joint venture of Alsim Alarko and NCC and J&P.

The selected bidder will build a new passenger terminal covering an area of 71,000m² with a capacity to handle one million passengers per annum.

The upgrade will include building a new 4km runway to handle superjumbo Airbus A380 aircraft, according to zawya.com.

The 30-month construction project will also include the construction of an advanced air traffic control tower, passenger boarding bridges, cargo terminal, MRO facility, catering building and other facilities.
