Oman has awarded a OMR703m ($1.8bn) contract to a joint venture of Bechtel and Bahwan Contracting for the construction of a new terminal building at Muscat International Airport.
The 332,000m² terminal will have the capacity to handle 12 million passengers per year and 48 million passengers by 2050 with further expansions.
The main building will be 460m long and 200m wide, and will be complete by 2014, according to constructionweekonline.com.
The airport project also includes a new control tower and second runway, which will be completed and operational by the end of 2013.
The passenger terminal and other buildings will be complete by the end of 2014.
