Health and wellness company XpresSpa has opened the Covid-19 testing facility, XpresCheck, at Terminal 4 of JFK International Airport in the US.

The company partnered with JFK International Air Terminal (JFKIAT) and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) for the Covid-19 screening and testing facility.

Last month, XpresSpa signed a contract with JFKIAT to pilot the Covid-19 testing.

XpresCheck is the first full-service Covid-19 coronavirus screening and testing facility that is being set up in a US airport.

The facility has nine separate testing rooms with the capacity to administer more than 500 tests each day. The facility will offer both Covid-19 and antibody testing.

The company will provide its testing services to airline employees, contractors and workers, as well as concessionaires and their employees, TSA officers, and US Customs and Border Protection agents.

XpresSpa CEO Doug Satzman said: “We are thrilled to launch our first pilot testing site at JFK Terminal 4, and we are hopeful that this will benefit airport workers.

“Together with JFKIAT and the Port Authority, we will support the safety and health of front-line airport workers and travellers as New York’s recovery plan takes form and plan to aggregate valuable testing data to share with the appropriate government agencies.

“Further, we hope to take learnings from this first pilot location to inform our expansion plans to other major airports in gateway cities.”

Port Authority chairman Kevin O’Toole added: “The Port Authority is pleased to open the nation’s first Covid-19 and antibody testing facility for employees at JFK International Airport with JFKIAT and XpresSpa.

“The agency will continue to enhance safety at its facilities by piloting the new technologies, programmes, and policies needed to manage the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.”
