UK-based engineering consultancy firm WSP has secured a five-year contract from Birmingham Airport to future-proof the airport.

The programme, which forms part of the airport’s ten-year expansion and development plan, has the option to extend the contract for a further two years.

Under the terms of the contract, WSP will support the airport across areas such as building services, civil engineering, structures, airfield engineering and fire engineering, environmental advisory, baggage handling, IT/ICS and security.

After a record 13 million passengers travelled through Birmingham Airport last year, the airport launched its ten-year Capital Investment Programme to completely modernise its existing infrastructure to support further domestic and international growth.

“We’re looking forward to helping the airport expand and develop its existing and new infrastructure, exploring efficiencies and making innovative improvements.”

The programme focuses on expanding its existing facilities and services that will support the airport to meet increasing demand.

Birmingham Airport technical services director Rod Hulse said: “We are pleased to have selected WSP as our chosen engineering partner for the next five years. Our partnership will provide support for the Capital Investment Programme, where WSP will work on delivering our development programme.

WSP UK Aviation director Tim Morrison said: “We’re looking forward to helping the airport expand and develop its existing and new infrastructure, exploring efficiencies and making innovative improvements that will ensure that Birmingham is not only Future Ready, but also continues to increase its position on the global stage.”
