Wellington Airport in the suburb of Rongotai in New Zealand’s capital Wellington has opened its new multi-level car park.

The nine-floor car parking facility offers parking spaces for more than 1,000 cars. The building has been fitted with a guidance system that informs drivers of free spaces on each level, enabling them to quickly find available parking.

Wellington Airport Transport Manager Pippi Kettle said: “It’s a great milestone for Wellington Airport and we think the public will like the new building and parking options available to them.”

The car park provides covered parking, which can be booked online. It also offers drive-up options for motorists, allowing them to park their car on the day of flight departure for any length of stay.

“We want people to choose the option that best suits them whether that be booking ahead to get the best rates, a drive-up option for a short stay or heading to the airport on a bike.”

Additionally, the parking facility comprises a transport hub that provides a dedicated area for bus and coach pick-up and drop-off.

Located on the ground floor, the transport hub is scheduled to become operational later in the year.

As part of the multi-level car park project, the airport has also extended the free public pick up and drop off areas with additional provisions for bicycle and motorbike facilities.

Furthermore, a 120-minute express parking zone near the new facility and adjacent to the terminal has been opened for those dropping off or collecting friends and family.

Kettle stated: “We recognise that not one size fits all when it comes to transportation. We want people to choose the option that best suits them whether that be booking ahead to get the best rates, a drive-up option for a short stay or heading to the airport on a bike.”

Outside of the multi-level car park and transport hub, the airport has provided a ride-sharing zone, taxi stands, rental car zone, as well as a valet.
