Vinci Concessions’ subsidiary Vinci Airports has announced that works are progressing as part of the modernisation plan of Serbia’s Belgrade Airport (BEG).

In an official ceremony, the advanced stage of the airport’s expansion and modernisation strategy was unveiled.

Recently, Belgrade airport received a waste treatment plant with an aim to recover the entire airport’s solid waste by the end of next year.

This initiative is part of the programme, which is being executed by Vinci Airports in collaboration with Vinci Construction Grands Projects.

Vinci Airports is planning to finish the modernisation project in the upcoming three years.

In a statement, Vinci Airports said: “The objective is to create a new airport hub in South-East Europe thanks to a 40,000m² extension of the passenger terminal, new boarding bridges and gates, the construction of an inserted runway and the complete renovation of the existing runway.

“These works will allow reaching a total capacity of 15 million annual passengers by the end of the concession.”

As part of the project, a 1MWp self-consumption photovoltaic park, a wastewater treatment plant and a new natural gas power plant to substitute heavy fuel oil will also be constructed.

According to Vinci Airports, these will help in the enhancement of the airport’s environmental performance.

Last week, Vinci Airports and ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, the airport authority of Portugal, reopened the second terminal of Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Portugal.
