Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agency in the US has started the implementation of new technologies and modified security procedures at Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) to safeguard the health and safety of travellers.

At RNO’s security checkpoint, TSA is using computed tomography (CT) technology to screen travellers’ carry-on luggage. At present, two CT scanners are used at the airport.

During the screening process, the CT scanners apply a sophisticated algorithm while an X-ray camera shoots several images when it spins around the conveyor belt. This generates a 3-D image of the item that is being screened.

The 3-D X-ray image will provide a better view of the contents in the passenger bag to the TSA officer without any need to open the bag manually for checking.

Checking fewer bags reduces physical contact between the traveller and a TSA officer and accelerates the overall screening process.

Additionally, TSA is using credential authentication technology (CAT) at the airport to confirm the validity of a traveller’s photo identification and flight information in real time.
