Thales, a provider of integrated security and telecommunications solutions, has successfully deployed its integrated solutions at the new Bahrain Airport passenger terminal.

The solution, which will cover security, airport operation, communication and infrastructure, was provided under the $1.1bn Airport Modernisation Programme.

The airport’s expansion project is taking place in two phases.

The expanded terminal now covers an area of 210,000m², which is four times the size of the existing terminal.

The airport can now handle nearly 14 million passengers annually.

The aim of the project is to help in accomplishing Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.

Thales was subcontracted for the delivery of the integrated solutions, which includes advanced modular solutions such as video analytics, abnormal behaviours or conditions detection, resource management tools and smart incident management.

Thales’ solutions will not only provide security but also aim to enhance all aspects of airport operations.

The solutions will consolidate the management of airport operations, helping to provide seamless business continuity and traffic flow within the airport.

They also aim to lower waiting times, increase infrastructure performance and enhance the passenger experience.

Thales solutions provide the relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) to notify decision-makers in real-time, increasing the airport’s efficiency.

Thales Bahrain managing director Alain Correia said: “We have ensured that Bahrain International Airport has been equipped with the latest smart and innovative solutions. This guarantees optimum protection for passengers, staff and facilities, and meets the demand for enhanced security at the new airport by Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications and Bahrain Airport Company.

“Thales’s strength in innovation and digital technologies perfectly positions the group to become a preferred partner for aerospace, transportation and public security, the pillars of Bahrain’s smart city ambition.”
