Swissport, a provider of airport ground handling services and air cargo handling, has secured a cargo handling contract from the Lufthansa Group for London Heathrow Airport in the UK.

As per the contract, Swissport will now handle Lufthansa Group’s cargo at all of its UK destinations.

The company will also offer air cargo handling services to the group at London Heathrow Airport.

Swissport stated that this contract ‘complements the long-standing cooperation’ in the UK.

Swissport currently provides services to Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines at all of their UK stops. All these airlines are a part of the Lufthansa Group.

Swissport UK and Ireland cargo chief operating officer Jason Gaskell said: “We are pleased to be able to offer our premium air cargo handling services to the Lufthansa Group at London Heathrow, where we handle around 11,000 tonnes per year for their airlines.

“With the addition of London Heathrow, Lufthansa Group now relies on our services throughout its UK network, including trucking between all airports.”

Landside trucking services are also provided by Swissport.

In the coming days, the company will manage air cargo for nearly 30 flights a week, connecting the respective centres of Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines in Frankfurt, Zurich, Vienna and Munich with the UK.

Meanwhile, Swissport has partnered with around 184 airlines at 27 airports in the UK and Ireland.

In January, Swissport secured a new contract from Air France-KLM Group to extend services to all of its airlines’ flights in Saudi Arabia.

Valid until 2025, the new five-year contract comprised air cargo handling, passenger services and ramp handling.

The French-Dutch group’s airlines include KLM, Air France Cargo, Martinair, Air France, and Transavia.
