The City of Chicago has selected Studio ORD to lead a team of architects selected to design the $2.2bn global terminal of O’Hare International Airport, which is part of an $8.7bn expansion project.

After a competitive process, the City of Chicago shortlisted five qualified architect teams, with Studio ORD emerging as the winning team.

Studio ORD is a joint venture (JV) formed by Corgan Associates, Milhouse Engineering and Construction, STL Architects, Solomon Cordwell Buenz & Associates, and Studio Gang Architects.

Chicago will now enter into contract negotiations with Studio ORD. Once the contract is finalised, Studio ORD will collaborate with the City of Chicago and the airlines to design the new Global Terminal and Concourse.

“During this historic competition, the world’s best architecture firms submitted their incredible visions for the world to see.”

A second team will also be chosen from the remaining four finalists to design two new satellite concourses which will be constructed west of Terminal 1.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said: “The City of Chicago called upon teams from across the city and around the world to lead O’Hare’s historic expansion, and Studio ORD answered that call.
