IT firm SITA has received a five-year contract from Ghana Airports Company to manage key systems across Terminal 3 of Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana.

Under the contract, SITA will manage and support all passenger processing, baggage management and airport operations systems and integrate these with other airport systems.

SITA supported the opening of the new terminal in October last year by implementing these key systems.

The systems include check-in desks and self-service check-in kiosks. These systems will allow the airport to optimise its capacity, enabling airlines to share the infrastructure.

The technology company also installed and will now manage its baggage management technology, which is capable of aiding airlines to reconcile and track bags throughout journeys.

SITA will also support the use of its airport management solution, which will be used to streamline planning and operational control at Kotoka International Airport.

Ghana Airports Company managing director Yaw Kwakwa said: “Having implemented many of the solutions in use at Terminal 3, together with their experience across numerous African airports, SITA were best placed to support the management of these vital systems that underpin the smooth operation of Kotoka International Airport.”

SITA Middle East, India and Africa president Hani El-Assaad said: “With a rapidly expanding economy in Ghana, Kotoka International Airport has emerged as one of the main and fastest-growing hubs on the continent.

“We are pleased to support the smooth operation of this important hub. It is an endorsement of SITA’s experience and proven technology that today is used in many airports across Africa.”

Last month, Thailand’s Krabi International Airport planned to introduce SITA’s passenger technology in its domestic and international terminals.

In August, SITA secured a contract to power the new international terminal at Algeria’s Houari Boumediene International Airport, also known as Algiers Airport.
