Accipiter Radar Technologies has secured a contract to supply its 3D Total Coverage avian radar system to Sacramento International Airport (SMF) in the US.

The company signed a 12-month radar-as-a-Service (RaaS) contract to deliver its solution, which is aimed at helping the airport to secure its airspace.

The 3D Total Coverage avian radar system has been built on Accipiter’s Radar Intelligence Network (RIN) Platform Technology, which is said to be scalable and flexible.

Accipiter’s suite of Surveillance-to-Intelligence (S2I) user applications will provide various live, historical and analytical capabilities for risk assessment, mitigation and integration with Safety Management Systems.

“The use of Accipiter’s avian radar system will provide additional bird behavioural intelligence that may aid in their habitat management.”

Accipiter’s technology will allow Sacramento Airport to determine how avian radar derived actionable intelligence may potentially be incorporated into operations for decision support to the wildlife personnel and safety management teams.

Sacramento Airport will join the likes of Seattle Tacoma International Airport and Vancouver International Airport in deploying an avian radar system.

It will be Accipiter’s third West Coast avian radar system deployment.

Sacramento Airport welcomed more than 12 million passengers last year and hopes to achieve a passenger growth milestone this year.

Accipiter Radar develops, sells, and operates radar and sensor intelligence networks that have been designed to monitor the environment and characterise the behaviour of low flying aircraft.
