London Southend Airport in the UK has estimated that the £10m project aimed at upgrading the durability and performance of the airstrip will last for three months.

Stobart Group owns and operates London Southend Airport, Stobart Air and Stobart Aviation Services.

The airport will be closed to aircraft for the next three months to enable contractors to execute the planned work safely.

The latest upgrade is part of the strategic investment plan to support increased aircraft movements expected to create more jobs.

“We will be making every effort possible to ensure that any disturbance is kept to an absolute minimum.”

Stobart Aviation chief executive Glyn Jones told the BBC: “The last set of major runway works were in 2011 and were part of the runway extension development. Previous to that, maintenance was carried out in 1994.

“Although the nature of these works means that some disturbance is unavoidable, we will be making every effort possible to ensure that any disturbance is kept to an absolute minimum.”
