As much as 60% of the work has been completed and construction of the new building is likely to be completed by August 2022.”

Some of the new terminal building’s features include five passenger boarding bridges, 34 check-in counters and an in-line baggage handling system.

With a four-star Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) rating, the building will also include 36,000ft² space for food and beverages and retail outlets.

According to the AAI, a $16.44m (Rs1.2bn) multilevel car parking facility is also being built at the airport, with a capacity to park 1,024 cars.

This facility will be connected to the current terminal’s departure area with a sky bridge and also have a staircase, escalators and elevators.

In February, the airport announced its closure for flight operations for 14 days from 26 April to 9 May due to runway resurfacing work.
