Japanese electronics giant Panasonic will showcase its automated airport passenger terminal solution at Passenger Terminal EXPO at ExCel London, UK, from 26-28 March.

The new solution, known as ‘One ID’, will allow travellers to check-in, pass through immigration, and obtain directions to the boarding gate from a robot assistant.

Powered by facial recognition technology, One ID also allows passengers to check personalised flight details using digital signage, and self-board at the gate, without manual ID verification.

Panasonic claims that the One ID platform will boost passenger throughput and customer satisfaction by reducing waiting times and help airports to boost their operational efficiency.

“Visitors to the expo will be able to experience the airport journeys of the future and see just how much time and resource can be saved by using technology.”

During the expo, Panasonic will encourage guests to visit its booth and experience the functionality of the facial recognition-based automated check-in counter that has been designed to accelerate the passengers’ processing.

Once passengers pass through the airport, the facial recognition capabilities of Panasonic’s One ID solution are integrated into customer service robots and digital signage, which direct passengers to their gate and gives personalised flight information.

Using facial recognition technology, passengers can activate the automated personal mobility units when they need assisted transport to their boarding gate.

Panasonic’s FacePRO security system can also monitor the locations of travellers on their way to the boarding gate, which allows airport staff to swiftly locate passengers who may be lost or delayed within the terminal.

Panasonic business and industry solutions head Shusuke Aoki said: “Visitors to the expo will be able to experience the airport journeys of the future and see just how much time and resource can be saved by using technology solutions already available today.

“Elements of the solution such as the automated check-in and security tracking solutions are already in use in major international airports in Asia and Europe, but this is the first time the company’s unique automated end-to-end One ID solution will be demonstrated to the public.”
