Unisys China has completed the integration of core airport operational systems at Chengdu Airport as part of its modernisation plan to increase passenger traffic.
The project included the integration of 20 different systems, in addition to the design and implementation of core operational systems such as the airport operational database (AODB), a flight information management system, airport middleware and a flight information query system.
The new AODB was incorporated with the global Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN).
Unisys Asia Pacific aviation practice head Sury Chavali said that Chengdu Airport’s expansion is in line with the Government’s recent intention to make airline services available to 89% of the Chinese population by 2020.
"As demand grows for both international business and domestic leisure travel, airports such as Chengdu will rely on integrated IT systems to offer travellers an enjoyable and efficient experience," Chavali said.
Work on the project included the incorporation of all the systems, with interface design, testing and commissioning for Terminal 2 and the incorporation of the new AODB with Terminal 1.
Unisys will continue offering maintenance for the systems installed at the airport for five years.
Chengdu Airport Expansion Project Headquarters chief engineer Wu Ding said that the airport requires an enhanced, flexible IT system to support the expected increase in passenger numbers and ensure a positive experience for air travellers.
"The Unisys solution gives us the operational platform we need to move confidently into the future," Ding said.
Sinotec, the prime contractor for the project and Unisys partner in the Asia Pacific region, has subcontracted Unisys for the project.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China revealed that the Chengdu Airport had reported a 12.6% rise in annual passenger numbers in 2011.
