Once operational, the facility will have the capacity to power more than 61,000 US households.

Gamesa US CEO Borja Negro said: "This agreement reinforces Gamesa’s presence in the United States and strengthens the long-standing relationship we have with Iberdrola Renewables globally and in North America."

Claimed to be the first utility-scale wind facility in the US state, the plant will deliver its power exclusively for cloud data centre owned by Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The order raises Gamesa’s installed capacity to Iberdrola Renewables in the US to nearly 2,300MW.

AWS, the Cloud computing unit under Amazon, intends to depend on renewable energy for its requirements, according to an announcement made in November 2014.

The firm signed a deal with the US unit of Iberdrola Renewables for setting up the 208MW wind facility across Perquimans and Pasquotank counties in the US state.
