Industrial equipment supplier DF Núcleo has secured a new contract to modernise voice communications systems (VCS) and the associated ground-air communications systems (GACS) at Santander Airport and San Sebastián Airport in Spain.

The scope of the VCS upgrade project involves a migration to voice over internet protocol (VoIP) technology, as well as a replacement for the discontinued CD-20 system, which was deployed 17 years ago at both airports.

Under the deal, DF Núcleo will supply communication systems for air traffic control (ATC) at the airports.

The new solutions will replace existing systems that have reached the end of their lifecycle, and cannot be adapted for current regulations and requirements.

As part of the project, the Spanish firm will deploy the ULISES V5000i VoIP communications system, multi-protocol test unit SIGNUM T50, associated GACS, complementary positions equipment, integration of supervision systems (ORION) and IP Communications Network (IPCN).

The company has also secured more than 87% of the VoIP VCS installation projects in national tendering processes at the Alicante-Elche airport, the Reina Sofia Airport in Tenerife Sur, the Bilbao and Almería airports, and the airport on Grand Canary Island.
