UK-based software company Cambridge Pixel is delivering radar trackers to the Second Institute of Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAACSRI) for integration with its modern airport surface movement systems.

CAACSRI’s airport surface movement systems are currently being implemented for upgrade and expansion projects in airports across south-west China, including the Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.

Cambridge Pixel’s SPx software-based radar trackers are being supplied via local agent Aeroer and are expected to offer improved target detection capabilities at the Chinese airports.

The low-cost, open, highly configurable trackers are capable of operating with a wide range of radars and are able to support varied tracking configurations in user-defined areas.

This enables faster targets to be tracked on runways, while minimising false alarms in other areas.

“We have deliberately designed our software ‘modules of expertise’ as discreet yet feature-rich components that are easy to integrate into any radar-based surveillance solution.”

The SPx radar tracker is fully parameterised and highly configurable, and facilitates multi-hypothesis and multi-model tracking in order to help enhance tracking efficiency and reduce nuisance alarms.

Cambridge Pixel CEO David Johnson said: “Our sophisticated radar tracker enhances target detection by processing the video data to identify genuine targets from clutter, and thereby provides radar operators and air traffic controllers with confidence and improved situational awareness.

“Furthermore, we have deliberately designed our software ‘modules of expertise’ as discreet yet feature-rich components that are easy to integrate into any radar-based surveillance solution.”

The SPx radar tracking software is part of Cambridge Pixel’s SPx suite of software libraries and applications, which offer highly flexible, ready-to-run software products for radar scan conversion, visualisation, radar video distribution, target tracking, sensor fusion, plot extraction and clutter processing activities.
