Rapiscan Systems’ French distributer HTDS is to supply Real Time Tomography (RTT) hold baggage screening systems for deployment at Charles de Gaulle and Orly international airports near Paris.

RTT technology is deployed by airports globally to detect explosive and prohibited items.

Under the multi-year contract, the company will initially provide four units of RTT 110 explosives detection system (EDS) to the airports.

Employing a proprietary, solid-state approach, the RTT provides high-resolution, 3-D imaging and its stationary gantry design allows the luggage to be screened at higher speeds.

The technology’s design facilitates easy installation of the RTT ‘in-line’ within an airport’s existing baggage handling network without slowing down the system.

The system is capable of making accurate detections, even of liquid explosives, enhancing passenger safety at the airports.

The company expects to submit its Rapiscan RTT 110 EDS for the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) certification testing in 2016.

Incorporating the same underlying technology as the company’s RTT 80, the RTT 110 offers a larger tunnel size that is capable of screening larger items.

The RTT has also passed the European Civil Aviation Conference’s (ECAC) HBS EDS Standard 3 threat detection requirement.

Earlier in May, the company received a $27m contract to provide multiple units of the RTT 110 EDS to Leonardo da Vinci – Fiumicino Airport in Rome.
