The UK’s London Gatwick has been ranked as the least popular airport in the world for passenger sentiment, scoring 0.6 out of ten, according to a report by web meeting provider PowWowNow.

However, the airport secured an overall index rating of 5.6 and scored well for on-time performance (7.3) and quality of service (7.4), which indicates that the airport may need to focus more on the flight experience over airport facilities.

The research was carried out using data provided by AirHelp and LoungeBuddy, and considered on-time performance, quality of service, passenger service, Wi-Fi score, as well as the number of passengers and available lounges.

PowWowNow gathered the data to make its overall index of the top 36 airports and gave them score from one to ten in order to rank them accordingly.

“Gatwick secured an overall index rating of 5.6 and scored well for on-time performance with 7.3 and quality of service at 7.4.”

With an overall score of 7.4 out of ten, Tokyo Narita and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi emerged as the best airports for remote working, followed by Moscow Sheremetyevo and Singapore Changi Airport.

In comparison, Barcelona El Prat received an overall score of eight out of ten, making it the most popular airport in the survey.

In Europe, Leonardo da Vinci in Rome and London Heathrow were revealed as top airports for remote working. Heathrow offers 44 lounges, which is the highest number of work areas in any airport worldwide.

PowWowNow managing director Jason Downes said: “More and more people have to travel for work, which is why it’s so important to be able to work on the go. This is even more apparent at airports, where most passengers wait a couple of hours for their flights, it makes sense to make use of that time to finish off work.

“If you’re a constant business traveller, look out for the less busy airports, which offer comfortable areas where you are able to work, with a free Wi-Fi connection and a good quality of service.”
