London City Airport in the UK has restarted international flights after they were suspended due to the Covid-19 travel restrictions.

This announcement follows the UK Government’s ‘Travel Corridors’ policy.

London City Airport has received high demand from travellers to resume flights to popular holiday destinations in Europe.

Last month, 79% of the airport customers stated that they would travel again when the government, airports or airlines state that it is safe.

Due to the travel corridors policy and extensive safety measures at the airport, passengers have chosen to book flights and travel.

BA CityFlyer has commenced flights to Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Málaga and Florence. The flights will be supplemented with Luxair flights to Luxembourg and KLM flights to Amsterdam from 13 July.

Effective from 1 August, BA CityFlyer will operate flights from London City Airport to other places in Europe, including Nice, Mahon, Faro and Bergerac.

The airport has also implemented different health and safety measures to safeguard passengers and employees.

Last month, London City Airport announced its plans to resume commercial operations by the end of the month.

In March, it halted all commercial and private flight operations temporarily amid the Covid-19 outbreak in the UK.

London City Airport CEO Richard Hill said: “Today marks the start of the summer getaway season, and it’s clear that customers value the safe, careful and speedy environment that we’ve created.

“I’m also delighted to see BA CityFlyer back operating from their home airport. Our partnership has been tremendously successful in the past and I am confident that it will be again, especially with more leisure routes like Nice, Mahon, Faro and Bergerac to follow, as well more daily rotations to Malaga, Ibiza and Palma.

“Looking ahead, I anticipate we’ll see more of our airline partners re-starting services in the coming weeks, encouraged by the demand we’re experiencing in the London market.”
