Airport operator Lima Airport Partners (LAP) has awarded a contract to Wayra Consortium for the construction of the new control tower and airside support buildings at Jorge Chavez International Airport.
The consortium is made of Ferrovial, Acciona and JJC.

The selection process saw participation from four consortiums in the aeronautical and construction sectors.
LAP expansion project director Anton Aramayo said: “The local component was an important factor in the selection process, taking into consideration the construction times, the knowledge of the industry and the local environment, as well as the possibility to have an available team and equipment to start works at short notice.”
The construction of a new control tower will represent an important phase of the airport’s expansion project. This tower will permit the operation of two runways and optimise air traffic control in Peru.
The new tower will be 65m-long and made of reinforced concrete, along with a superior steel structure.

By GlobalDataThe shaft will have a 21m-diameter and feature a large control cabin on the top, which will adhere to the requirements for visibility over the airfield.
AECOM, which is responsible for the design, was in charge of the engineering.

The airport operator plans to complete the award of all the contracts for the work packages for the airside, which are estimated to be valued at $400m.
In July, the contract for the second runway will be given, for which the bidding process is currently ongoing.
In 2017, LAP and the Government of Peru signed an amendment to the airport concession agreement signed in 2001, enabling the former to go ahead with a $1.5bn expansion programme at the Lima Jorge Chavez International Airport.
