Indoor motion analytics specialist iinside, in collaboration with Infax, has deployed its LiDAR-based iQueue analytics service at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport.

According to the technology vendor, iQueue analytics will offer fully automated operational intelligence on passengers standing in line at TSA security checkpoints and keep travellers informed about expected wait-times.

Jackson Municipal Airport Authority interim CEO Perry Miller said: “Providing travellers with TSA security line updates is important to building a better passenger experience.

“Travellers will now have up-to-the-minute security wait times made available through the airport’s website and on digital signage throughout the airport. It is by investing in these types of passenger enhancements that Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport has become the airport of choice for travellers.”

iinside motion analytics platform Quanergy LiDAR uses non-visible laser beams to illuminate a space and accurately map moving objects.

The platform also uses machine learning to interpret LiDAR data and provide the airport with intelligence about passenger behaviour, several operational metrics, and forecast TSA wait-times in real-time.

iinside said that the new technology is more precise compared to Bluetooth or Wi-Fi-based options.

The technology is also said to be much better than stereoscopic cameras at protecting the identity of travellers.

The new solution enables airports, airlines and ride-share providers to use TRAX video analytics to forecast security checkpoint delays and estimate time-to-gate journeys to improve passengers’ journey experience.

iinside president and CEO Sam Kamel said: “Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport is the first regional airport in the US to realise the benefits of iinside’s LiDAR-enhanced iQueue solution.

“We admire the airport’s vision and dedication to providing passengers with a friction-free travel experience enabled by our smart airport services. We’re very proud to have partnered with Infax and Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Aiport to make this project a reality.”

In 2018, Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport witnessed a 3.2% increase in passenger flow from the previous year, up to 942,375.
