Iceland’s air navigation service provider Isavia is planning to expand implementation of the Veovo Flow Management solution at Keflavík International Airport to help improve passenger flow.

The decision has been taken in view of the increasing passenger traffic at the airport, with around ten million passengers predicted this year.

Veovo technology comprises sensors and advanced deep learning algorithms. It was initially implemented at the airport’s check-in and security processes in 2016.

Implementation of the Veovo Flow Management solution allows airport authorities to make informed decisions by understanding the movement of passengers within the airport.

In addition, the technology provides wait time and occupancy figures to prevent overcrowding.

The Keflavík also implemented Veovo’s Airport Management System that provides operational visibility to improve resource management.

“Now we are able to make more informed decisions, and anticipate problems before they arise.”

Using solutions allows the airport management to communicate wait times and flight information through screens and mobile app.

Keflavík Airport operation research project manager Guðmundur Karl Gautason said: “We use the data to see when levels of service are breached and to find out the reasons. This has helped us to identify the problems we had with our work shifts starting too late.

“Before implementation, we did not have this information at hand to actually be able to quantify the problem. Now we are able to make more informed decisions, and anticipate problems before they arise.”

The expanded deployment of the Flow Management solution will enable Keflavík to have a detailed view of passengers´ movement patterns.

Veovo noted that the technology will assist in obtaining real-time and historical data.

The information will help optimise operational resource allocation, including bus usage or gate allocation, and also improving the layout of existing facilities.
