The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, has announced partial closure for five months to undertake refurbishment work from the beginning of November.

The Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL)-operated airport’s main runway 09/27 will be closed for commercial flights from 9am to 5.30pm from November 2019 to March 2020, for six days a week.

During this period, flight operations will be transferred to the second runway, 14/32.

The runway will operate on all Sundays and select days during the rehabilitation period.

A MIAL spokesperson was quoted by LiveMint as saying: “All airlines have been informed about the unavailability of the primary runway at the Mumbai Airport about a year back so that they could prepare for the operations accordingly.”

The primary runway at the airport can handle approximately 46 flights per hour, while the secondary runway can handle around 36 flights per hour. The airport, which is one of the busiest single-runway airports in the world, handles around 940 flights a day.
