The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is investing Rs12.17bn ($165.6m) for the modernisation and upgrade of Patna Airport in the state of Bihar, India.

The upgrade work, which is underway, will enable the airport to handle eight million passengers annually.

Overall, the project involves building a new integrated terminal building, cargo complex, and a multi-level car park.

An air traffic control and technical building, airport fire station and new apron with 14 aircraft parking bays are also part of the modernisation programme.

The project is scheduled to be completed by March 2023.

Once complete, Patna Airport will feature a total area of 700,000ft² with separate departure and arrival levels. The departure section, which will be located on the upper level, will be connected with a flyover to airport entry gate and via a link bridge to the multi-level car parking facility.
