Glacier Park International Airport in Montana, the US, has selected Swank Enterprises and Q&D Construction for its airport expansion project.

The airport served around 700,000 people last year, which is a 19% increase from the previous year.

NBC Montana quoted Glacier International Airport director Robert Ratkowski as saying: “We’re keeping an eye on the future and expanding with future numbers in mind. Not to say that we’re going crazy and building a gigantic building that we don’t need.”

Currently spanning over 78,000ft², the expansion project will increase the airport’s area to 198,000ft². Part of this area will be allocated to the basement.

The airport will add a larger checkpoint, holding rooms, baggage claim and car rental area.

The entire expansion project is estimated to cost $97m.

Glacier Park International Airport plans to fund the project through different sources. Around $7m will come from the airport, $29m from the government and $6m is expected from a grant. The remaining will be provided through commercial lending.

Ratkowski added: “The good news is that we’ve gone through a series of estimates that number is holding, so we’re not seeing the overall costs until the project.”

The airport expects to make changes to the ticketing area by April. Project construction will commence later this year and will be completed in 2022.

In 2017, the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) installed a new checked baggage screening unit at Glacier Park International Airport.
