GE Aviation, which offers jet engines, components, and systems for commercial and military aircraft, is set to shift to a larger facility at Brisbane Airport (BNE) in Australia.

The firm aims to complete the project, featuring a new 3,312m² warehouse within the Da Vinci precinct, by mid-2022.

Construction work has begun on the project, with a sod-turning event at the site that was attended by GE Aviation and Tomkins delegates.

Tomkins is managing several BNE property projects including the Qantas Flight Training Centre facility located across from the future GE Aviation site.

GE Aviation CFO Mark Gavioli said: “We are so glad to enter this new chapter with a significant vote of confidence in the future of our relationship with Brisbane Airport.

“We have been at the airport since 2005 and some of us standing here on our future warehouse site were at the original sod turning, so we are proud to bring in new employees who may still be here in 16 years.”

During the construction phase, the project is expected to create more than 400 jobs.

Brisbane Airport Corporation Property Development head George Delibaltas said: “GE Aviation’s partnership with Brisbane Airport means a great deal to us as it is a long-lasting relationship that continues to go from strength to strength and we really look forward to starting this next chapter together.

“We have a number of exciting projects underway across the airport, with our property assets under management portfolio exceeding $1.5bn. GE Aviation is a part of this exciting change, as are other big names including DHL, Qantas, Eagers Automotive and many more.”

In September 2017, Qantas and GE Aviation developed a new flight data application called FlightPulse, which provides data to pilots to help them fly efficiently and reduce carbon emissions.
