Fraport Greece (FG) has selected US-based construction consulting firm Hill International to provide project management support and on-call technical support services for 14 Greek airports.

According to the three-year contract, Hill International will support the upgrades, maintenance, management, and operation of the airports.

In 2017, Fraport Greece signed a concession agreement to take control of 14 regional airports in Greece, as part of the country’s privatisation programme.

FG operates airports in Aktion, Kavala, Thessaloniki, Kerkyra / Corfu, Chania / Crete, Kefalonia, Kos, Mytilene / Lesvos, Mykonos, Rhodes, Samos, Santorini, Skiathos and Zakynthos.

Since the signing of the agreement, FG has carried out work for the modernisation, development, and / or expansion of the airport infrastructure.

The work includes the refurbishment of current terminals and the construction of new landside and airside facilities in a bid to improve the operational processes, safety and travel.

Hill will aid the infrastructure work management for different programmes such as the European Union Aviation Safety Agency Certification compliance programme and the commercial development programme.

Hill International Southern Europe vice-president and managing director Manolis Sigalas said: “These airports form a transit web throughout Greece.

“As tourism in Greece continues to surge, these upgraded hubs will help meet the demands of the industry. The airports will also facilitate regional travel and create jobs for local communities. This is an investment of national significance.”

Last June, Fraport Greece unveiled the design of the new Mykonos Airport. The design of the airport combines modern architecture with the traditional style of the Cyclades.

In 2018, Fraport Greece announced plans to expand Thessaloniki Airport (SKG).
