Fraport has announced that 188,078 passengers travelled through Frankfurt Airport in April, marking a decline of 96.9% compared to the same month last year.
In the first four months of this year, the total passenger numbers decreased by 45.7%.

The total flight movements last month totalled 6,512, a decline of 85.1% compared to the same period last year.
The total cargo handled was 141,337t, a decrease of 20.7% compared to March 2019.
The decline in passenger numbers is attributed to travel restrictions imposed by other countries, along with the decrease in demand due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to data by the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, also known as EUROCONTROL, Frankfurt Airport operated around 218 takeoffs and landings each day, which is higher than any other airport in Europe.

Fraport airports in Brazil, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Russia and China were affected by the travel restrictions while airports in Ljubljana in Slovenia and Lima in Peru suspended flight operations temporarily.
Passenger numbers fell to between 92.1% and 99.9% in most of the operator’s airports in April.
However, Xi’an Airport in China served 1.4 million people, which is a significant number compared to the other airports, with a decline of 64.1% compared to April 2019.
Last month, Fraport reported that 2.1 million passengers travelled through Frankfurt Airport in March, marking a decline of 62% compared to the same month last year.
Ontario International Airport (ONT) in California, the US, has recorded a 20% increase in freight volume while passenger numbers fell by over 90%.
