UAE-based Farnek Company has won a five-year contract from Dubai Airports to offer facilities management (FM) services.

Farnek will offer cleaning services to Terminals 1 and 2, Concourse D, Cargo and Logistics at Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC).

The contract involves the cleaning of landside and airside facilities, including all passenger and stakeholder areas.

Farnek will also oversee the management of the travellers’ baggage trolley services at DWC, also known as Al Maktoum International Airport.

Dubai Airports facility care head Dorothee Stein said: “Farnek has been a preferred partner since 2014 and has a very clear understanding of our requirements. Farnek also shares our vision for sustainability in their day-to-day operations and we value that greatly.”

More than 800 employees will be deployed by Farnek to carry out the contracted work.

Farnek FM director Julian Khalil said: “Being awarded this contract in the face of intense competition speaks volumes for our innovative approach to utilising technology and sustainability in our day-to-day service offering.”

Khalil added that the firm will leverage its smartwatch technology to better serve remote areas.

Farnek is the first company in the UAE to secure the certification of Cleaning Industry Management Standard for Green Buildings (CIMS-GB).

Last month, Dubai Airports unveiled a new high-tech system known as realtimeDXB that gathers data from more than 50 systems to monitor real-time operations at DXB.

In June, Dubai Airports decided to ban single-use plastics from its consumer spaces, starting 1 January.

During the same month, Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics (SPPAL) signed a contract with Dubai Airports to provide handling systems for baggage and materials at two international airports in Dubai.
