Spanish telecommunications company Eurona has secured a contract to provide Wi-Fi services for passengers at Punta Cana International Airport (AIPC) in the Dominican Republic.

The contract was awarded by AIPC-owner Corporación Aeroportuaria del Este (CAE).

According to the agreement, Eurona will deliver wireless internet access services at the Dominican airport by deploying its HotSpot-Wifi operation system.

The company will also be involved in the design and development of the service portal and the configuration and installation of the platform.

Eurona will also supervise other additional functionalities for CAE, including the reporting of service usage levels by airport users.

The latest contract is expected to boost Eurona’s position in the airport market. The Spanish firm currently provides connectivity at the airports of El Dorado (BOG) and Matecaña (PEI) in Colombia and Tocumen (PTY) in Panama.

Additionally, Eurona has offered Wi-Fi services to the Spanish airport network of AENA.

Eurona CEO Fernando Ojeda said: “Our landing in this new Latin American airport that receives millions of passengers annually reinforces our commitment to HotSpot/Wifi technology, with which we already bring connectivity to more than 18,000 hotel and resort rooms in the Caribbean.”

In 2018, Eurona received the licence to deploy, commission, operate and maintain voice and internet services in the Dominican Republic for two decades.

Punta Cana International Airport handles more than seven million passengers every year. According to the airport website, it is the busiest airport in the country and offers direct flights to more than 26 countries.
