Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) in the US has started the use of the Avidbots Neo floor-scrubbing robot.

It is the first airport in the US to use the robot.

The Neo robot is capable of autonomously and continuously cleaning floors in the terminal, which aims to result in a healthy and high-quality experience for passengers.

As a fully autonomous floor-scrubbing robot, it uses advanced AI, cameras and 3D sensors to sense the environment and change its route automatically to evade obstacles.

The robot avoids people, suitcases, furniture and displays and ensures a safe and effective operation.

Conventional floor cleaning robots come with a pre-defined route for cleaning, which causes problems in airports and other dynamic environments.

Avidbots CEO and co-founder Faizan Sheikh said: “CVG is one of the world’s most innovative airports, deploying the latest technologies to deliver the very best passenger experience, so we aren’t surprised they are the first airport in the US to deploy the Avidbots Neo floor-scrubbing robot.

“Neo works 24/7 to keep CVG’s facilities spic and span, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for airport visitors, passengers and staff.”

During a pilot programme that commenced last November, the robot cleaned an average of 200,000ft² of floor each week.

With a single charge, Neo can operate for six hours.

CVG Airport CEO Candace McGraw said: “Introducing new technologies to elevate the passenger experience is critical to our business.

“In the challenging and uncertain times we find ourselves, making sure our facilities are safe and clean is our top priority, so Neo has been a great asset to our team to ensure a high standard of cleanliness is met.”

Avidbots Neo is also used by Paris Charles de Gaulle, Singapore Changi, Tokyo Narita, Tokyo Haneda and Osaka Kansai and many other airports around the world.
