AGS Airports in the UK has announced that it will implement temporary restrictions to ensure the safety of the staff at its three airports in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, flights around the world are being grounded due to the travel restrictions implemented by different countries.

Aberdeen and Glasgow airports will support the UK’s pandemic response and will provide links to the communities in the Highlands and Islands, NHS and air ambulance services.

Southampton Airport will continue to aid services to the Channel Islands.

All three airports will also serve the remaining airlines that are still operational.

The airport operator is in talks with its staff and trade union representatives to ensure that the staff who will be laid off can access the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme introduced by the UK Government.

AGS Airports CEO Derek Provan said: “We have also proposed other measures to support the business at this time, including temporary pay cuts for all staff, including our Board and leadership team, an end to bonus payments, the option for staff to take unpaid leave and the option for reduced working hours.

“These have been difficult decisions to take, however, I am absolutely clear they will enable us to protect jobs, protect the health and wellbeing of our employees and ensure AGS Airports is in a strong position to aid our country’s recovery when we emerge from this crisis.”

Last week, London City Airport also announced that it will halt all commercial and private flight operations temporarily amid the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
