Amid the reduced passenger numbers caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the UK’s Manchester Airport has decided to operate all its flights from Terminal 1, effective from 25 March.

As the pandemic progresses, the airport expects passenger traffic to further decrease and has decided to close its second and third terminals as a result.

All passengers will now check-in and go through security via Terminal 1. Passengers who return to the airport will also land at Terminal 1.

If passengers arrive at Terminal 1 but originally departed from and parked their car at another terminal, the airport has stated that it will assist the customers in collecting their vehicles.

All passengers travelling after 25 March that have booked lounge access and car parking for Terminals 2 and 3 can change their bookings to Terminal 1.

In a statement, Manchester Airport said: “Throughout this transition, we will have colleagues on hand to help passengers and will have extra wayfinding in place to guide people to the right places.

“More information on the change in terminals can be found on our website, or passengers can follow our social media channels for the latest advice and help.

“We would like to thank our customers for their understanding and would also like to place on record our thanks to our colleagues, who have shown huge dedication and professionalism during this challenging time.”

In a similar move, London Heathrow Airport has planned to consolidate its operations.

It added that the airport will remain open to offer passenger services and cargo operations to support the country’s supply chains.

Some of the steps taken include decreasing the cost of operations, stopping executive pay, cancelling recruitment and reviewing all capital projects.

Edinburgh Airport in Scotland has also introduced a consolidation plan to safeguard its operations.

In addition, Ireland’s Dublin Airport and Cork Airport recently announced plans to reduce their operations amid the reduced passenger traffic caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
