A subsidiary of the German air navigation service provider DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS), DFS Aviation Services has deployed a new web-based, Cloud-enabled radar display at Hamburg International Airport.

The new Phoenix WebInnovation system is based on the Phoenix system’s tracker technology developed in-house by the DFS team.

The solution can be used to display an air and ground situation from a modern browser, without having to install any new hardware.

Hamburg Airport is currently using the tool as a mobile solution for radar and flight plan information in its apron management service vehicles.

It allows users to monitor all flight movements in real-time and plan their routes accordingly.

Hamburg Airport operational services manager Christian Schultz said: “We are happy to have found an innovative, flexible and mobile radar display in PHOENIX WebInnovation and to be the first airport in Germany that uses the system.

“Its intuitive operation means our vehicle drivers can quickly overview the current air situation.”

The airport has been using Phoenix System for the apron management service and traffic management center.

To support the existing system for the apron management service vehicles, DFS Aviation Services has now developed a web-based air situation display.

The system has become operational for the first time following successful recent trials.

Phoenix WebInnovation is also being deployed in the control tower of Adolf Wurth Airport, near Schwäbisch Hall in the south-west of Germany.
