Norwegian state-owned airport operator Avinor has awarded a €50m contract to Caverion to install and maintain access control and video surveillance systems at its airports.

The contract is an extension of the companies’ existing partnership, which was formed in 2010.

Under the agreement, the security systems will be installed in all 44 airports managed by Avinor, which span from Svalbard in the northernmost part of the country to Kristiansand in the south.

Caverion will also equip the technical centre in Asker and the control centre in Røyken with the surveillance system.

The project and services work will be coordinated centrally from Caverion while the work will be completed by local experts from the company’s 50 Norwegian locations.

Avinor section manager Kirsti Grottheim said: “The safety of our travellers is Avinor’s highest priority, which is why we depend on a solid partner with high-security expertise.

“Short response time, nationwide presence and a high number of security experts were crucial to Caverion being awarded the contract.”

Caverion Norway executive vice-president Knut Gaaserud said: “We are pleased with the trust Avinor continues to show us by extending our now ten-year relationship within security for their airports. We view the renewing of this contract as a great compliment for our highly skilled security professionals.”

In 2018, Avinor invested a total of Nkr3.3bn ($403.8m) to upgrade the airside part of the terminal at Oslo Airport.

The company also unveiled plans to trial two autonomous snowploughs to keep snow away from airport areas.
