SITA has won a contract to deploy 34 common-use self-service check-in kiosks at Argentina’s Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport (EZE).

The contract has been awarded by EZE manager and operator AA2000, which runs a total of 35 airport terminals across the country.

As part of the contract, SITA will also deploy 20 Scan&Fly self-service bag-drop kiosks at the airport.

The IT firm said that its self-service kiosks and bag-drop solutions will enable the airport to boost capacity by more than 50% by 2021.

The installation of the new services forms part of a master plan to transform Argentina’s main airport that also involves the construction of an arrivals terminal and control tower.

EZE CEO Daniel Ketchibachian said: “Our aim is to make Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport the best airport in South America, using the most innovative technology from around the world.

“We are installing self-service kiosks, which can be used by multiple airlines, and self-service bag-drop units. These will transform the passenger experience at our airport by significantly reducing queue times.”

The solutions will be installed at the new departures terminal, which is scheduled to become operational at Buenos Aires’ main airport in October this year.

Passengers at the new terminal will be able to check-in and drop off their baggage without having to wait in line for an agent.

SITA Latin America vice-president Elbson Quadros said: “Using self-service check-in kiosks, airports can cut passenger processing times by 25%. We’ve also seen passengers dropping off their baggage in just 20 seconds, using the Scan&Fly kiosks.

“Passengers using the new terminal are going to notice a significant difference as they make their way to boarding.”

SITA said that its self-service technology will also help the airport operator to maximise capacity at the new terminal by allowing more passengers to check-in from the same area.

Last month, Melbourne Airport extended its partnership with SITA for the supply of flexible and passenger-friendly technologies to bolster capacity.

In May, Eindhoven Airport ground handler Viggo deployed SITA’s airport management system to ensure timely aircraft turnaround times and an efficient passenger journey.
