Bristol Airport (BRS)  in the UK has opened a new Covid-19 testing service amid a fresh surge of coronavirus cases in the country.

The testing centre is located in the terminal before security on the first floor, with services open to both the passengers and the local community.

The airport opened the Covid-19 test centre in collaboration with Katalyst Laboratories and Nuffield Health.

It features a Nuffield Health-managed on-site laboratory for analysing the collected samples.

Katalyst Laboratories, a government-authorised distributor of SARS-CoV-2 rapid testing products, is conducting the tests.

Bristol Airport customer services head Richard Thomasson said: “As an approved private screening provider, customers can be assured that all tests offered by Nuffield Health are highly accurate and meet the required standards for international travel.

“As we prepare to welcome more passengers to the airport, it is important that we can provide this facility to enable customers to easily access Covid-19 testing services before they fly.”

The facility provides rapid Gold Standard PCR tests with results available in four hours to enable passengers to make urgent flight bookings.

In addition, the centre offers another Gold Standard PCR tests with results obtainable in 48 hours, as well as Lateral Flow Antigen tests with results in 20 minutes.

Customers can book their appointment through the Nuffield Health online booking portal to avail the services.

Katalyst Laboratories CEO Andrew Wheeler said: “We welcome the opportunity to work in partnership with the Bristol Airport team and we look forward to supporting the travel industry in getting back on its feet as travel restrictions ease, especially now that fully vaccinated travellers can also travel to Amber List countries from 19 July without the need for quarantine, but with testing on return to the UK on day two still a requirement.”

Notably, the UK Government eased restrictions earlier this week despite a spike in daily Covid-19 cases.

According to the Johns Hopkins University, the UK has reported more than 5.5 million Covid-19 cases and around 129,000 fatalities as of 22 July 2021.
