Security solution provider Vision-Box and Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) have signed an agreement to introduce a paperless biometric self-boarding service at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR Airport) in the Indian state of Karnataka.

The launch of the biometric self-boarding service is aimed at simplifying the passenger journey by making it paperless from registration to boarding.

BIAL managing director and CEO Hari Marar said: “Your face is your boarding pass. BLR Airport will continue to lead from the front in transforming air travel in India by leveraging on technology.

“Vision-Box’s state-of-the-art biometric technology combined with its passenger flow platform will enable a seamless journey for our passengers, without obstacles, waiting lines or hassles, from registration to boarding.”

“The first implementation of the face-recognition technology at Bangalore Airport is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of next year.”

Biometric technology will recognise travellers by their face when they move across the airport and help to avoid stops and the frequent presentation of boarding passes, passports or other physical identity documents.

Once the biometric technology is fully integrated by next year, BLR Airport will become the first airport in India to use an end-to-end solution for paperless air travel.
