Bristol Airport in the UK has announced the addition of two new Air Decker buses to the Bath Bus Company fleet in order to boost connectivity between Bath and the airport.

These buses will operate between the airport and Bath Spa train station.

This service is expected to offer an alternative transport option to taking a car or taxi while providing a frequent link to the airport.

Bristol Airport Surface Access Strategy manager Paul Baker said: “We are delighted to see the additional new buses added to the A4 fleet, continuing to enhance our sustainable methods of transport between Bath and the airport.

“It is great to see the growth on this route for customers and staff and the addition of these new Euro 6 low emission vehicles will contribute to reducing our carbon emissions.”

The buses will feature upgraded ticket machines that can process contactless card payments and QR codes for tickets purchased online.

Bus Bath Company managing director Martin Curtis said: “This investment and further update to the Air Decker fleet, which has grown to meet the demand, now offers a range of vehicles with reduced emissions on this Bristol Airport service.

“Passenger numbers have increased with more opting to pre-book airport travel online than previously. Internet ticket sales are up by 30% on 2018.”

The A4 bus service was used by 414,000 passengers last year.

In September, Bristol Airport switched to a 100% renewable electricity supply in an effort to reduce its carbon footprint.

In February, Bristol Airport stated that it would offer £1.8m as part of a noise insulation scheme planned for homes in the surrounding area.
