Airports Council International (ACI) Europe has announced that Aeroporti di Roma (ADR) achieved Airport Carbon Accreditation Level 4+ recognition.
Aeroporti di Roma, which operates the Fiumicino (FCO) and Ciampino (CIA) Airports in Rome, secured the achievement as it aims for net-zero CO₂ by 2030.

Airports need to reduce their CO₂ emissions in line with global climate goals to achieve this recognition.
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) in the US and Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in India have also achieved this level of carbon management performance to date and Christchurch International Airport (CHC) has achieved Level 4 ‘Transformation’.
Aeroporti di Roma has achieved the first Airport Carbon Accreditation certification in 2011. Since then, it has constantly reduced its carbon emissions through an engagement plan involving all stakeholders.
The council stated that the Fiumicino Airport has been carbon neutral since 2013 and to accelerate the progress towards the objectives of the Paris Agreement, Aeroporti di Roma has set out a plan to eliminate all of its own CO₂ emissions.

Some of the specific developments made by the operator to reduce emissions include making sustainable aviation fuel available to airlines by 2024, promoting electric mobility and installing photovoltaic plants at the airport.
