French airports operator Vinci Airports has secured regulatory clearance to acquire eight airports in the US, UK, Costa Rica and Sweden from US-based company Airports Worldwide.

In order to execute the deal, VINCI Airports, a VINCI Concessions subsidiary, has secured official approvals from the competent regulatory authorities in the US, UK and Costa Rica.

The acquired portfolio includes two concessions, two freehold airports, four management contracts, as well as three partial-management contracts in Costa Rica, the UK and the US.

VINCI said that the agreement includes 100% of Belfast International Airport and 90% of Stockholm Skavsta Airport in Sweden.

The airport operator is also buying 100% of the concession for Orlando-Sanford International Airport in Florida and 45% of the concession for Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia, Costa Rica.

The four full-management contracts comprise Hollywood Burbank Airport and Ontario International Airport in California (US), and Macon Downtown Airport and Middle Georgia Regional Airport in Georgia (US).

The three partial-management contracts include Atlantic City International Airport in New Jersey, Raleigh Durham International Airport in North Carolina and part of the international terminal at Atlanta, Georgia.

The proposed acquisition expands VINCI’s network to include 44 airports in 11 countries and enables the company to manage more than 180 million passengers per annum.

VINCI manages the development and operation of 36 airports in France, Portugal, Cambodia, Japan, Chile, Dominican Republic and Brazil. Served by nearly 250 airlines, the company’s network welcomed 157 million travellers last year.
