The first morning of the World Route Development Strategy Summit will be dedicated to aviation leader strategies, focusing on international issues that impact the whole industry, including airline politics, the airline alliances’ influence on route development, and the influence of the narrowing market between low-cost carriers and legacy airlines.

Day one

The first afternoon will be split into three streams, focusing on Route Development, Air Cargo and Travel & Tourism. During the Route Development stream, vital topics will include expanding routes into new markets, financing and funding routes, and getting to grips with airport competition tactics. Parallel to this, the Travel & Tourism stream will cover important issues facing the industry, such as retaining and improving relationships between the tourism authority, airlines and airports; government support in the tourism market; and how to better market your organisation through social media. The Air Cargo Routes stream will endeavour to uncover solutions to various air cargo challenges such as measuring the value of cargo and maximising cargo as an important revenue stream for future growth.

Day two

For World Routes delegates not participating in the one-to-one meetings on 3 October, day two of the strategy summit will again focus on critical issues challenging the future of the industry, including security and safety, the impact of delayed aircraft deliveries and why airports are now viewed as economical catalysts.

CEOs from passenger and cargo airlines, airports, tourism authorities, government bodies, and the largest aviation associations are speaking at this event to share their knowledge, to be questioned by the audience, to participate in debates across the whole summit floor, to listen to suggestions on how to improve the industry, and to discuss oncoming trends.

"Higher fuel costs have been the dominant factor over the last five years and this looks set to continue as the major trend," says Edmond Rose, commercial director of Virgin Atlantic, who will be speaking at the event. "Consolidation of unprofitable airlines is also likely to be important in helping the industry mature and achieve profitability."

Fuel volatility and airline mergers and acquisitions are among the many critical and controversial topics that will be heavily debated by the leaders of the air transport industry.
