Surface grip (friction) is a major safety characteristic of an asphalt surface course. Once the bitumen film has been removed from the aggregate by vehicle trafficking, the micro-texture (roughness) of the aggregate is exposed which provides grip with tyre contact.
A fresh application of RHiNOPHALT® covers the aggregate micro-texture, effectively reducing the current grip value of the pavement surface like that of a freshly laid asphalt surface course.
Rhinogrit is applied, at the same time as the RHiNOPHALT®, to provide an instant increase in grip and to abrade the RHiNOPHALT® from the aggregate surface. Trafficking helps this abrasion and once the aggregate micro-texture is exposed, the grip values are returned to normal.
