SITA, the specialist provider of communications and IT solutions to the world’s air transport industry, has taken a lead role in the 2010 African Aviation ICT Forum, held in Cairo from 25 to 26 of May.
The Aviation ICT Forum, jointly organised by SITA, AFRAA and ACI Africa, has become one of the most prestigious events in Africa. Now in its third year, is the number one forum for African Air transport leaders to consider the strategic direction of the industry, discussing the issues it faces and the role of IT and communications in helping to address challenges and opportunities.
“We are proud to be taking a leading role at the 2010 Africa Aviation ICT Forum” said Hani El Assaad, regional vice president – SITA, Middle East and North Africa. “We have played a focal role across a number of major airline and airport projects across the region for over 50 years and can proudly say that have been instrumental in the development of the African Aviation infrastructure.”
With around 100 senior aviation executives attending the event, and the strongest ever speaker line, this year’s ICT Forum focused on main strategies and business technologies enabling sustainable industry growth in Africa through the next ‘digital decade’.
SITA has worked closely with leading industry associations in Africa, such as IATA, AFRAA, AACO, ACI and ICAO on a number of different aviation community initiatives. Some of these are various platforms for better cost efficiencies, faster and improved ROI, and generation of new sources of revenues along which identifying ICT as a main enabler, in various areas such as business transformation, infrastructure and communications, passenger management and facilitation, airport management services and operations and cargo solutions.
Transportation safety and security was another major theme this year. In preparation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Tournament, SITA provided South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs with the most advanced border management solution available today, advance passenger processing (APP). SITA’s APP will facilitate the arrival and departure of football fans next month while enhancing security and reducing both administration and turnaround costs for airlines.
SITA is the only ICT provider to the air transport industry that has a command centre which is 100% focused on ATI solutions/applications/network. All network support activations are grouped in Cairo, which makes Cairo a major hub for SITA operations and allows staff to provide additional cost effective and value added solutions to both Egyptian and overseas carriers in supporting their business operations.
Over the years, SITA has proven to be at the heart of the industry to help Egypt and other African Countries manage its growth for airline domestic and international, airports.
