Blastwall Designs Wall Extensions for ILS at Chicago Airport

Our fibreglass blast wall is not only durable, frangible and invisible, but it can be extended at any time. Recently, when Midway Airport in Chicago wanted to install a new instrument landing system (ILS), they needed two longer blast walls to protect the new system.

The original walls, now about ten years old, did not have to be replaced. We designed four 8ft extensions to be inserted into the existing walls. The end sections of the walls contained extra support.

By removing the ends on the two walls, they were then able to insert the new 8ft extensions and then replace the end sections. This resulted in both walls each being a total of 16ft longer. This ability to change the configuration is another unique feature of blast walls (jet blast deflectors) from Blastwall.
