Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics has concluded the extension of a state-of-the-art cargo system for Taiwan Air Cargo Terminal Ltd. (TACT).

The contract covered planning, design, delivery and erection of 669 conveyors, two cargo hoists and three elevating transfer vehicles (ETV) as well as the corresponding steel racks, control system and Siemens cargo handling software "Cargo Compact". The highly automated cargo handling system ensures efficient, smooth and timely air cargo handling at TACT’s twelve apron freighter positions.

TACT is one of the largest air cargo service providers at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, where it takes care of the import, export, consolidation and transshipment of air cargo, mainly used for Taiwan’s home-based China Airlines.

Handover took place as planned in spring 2015. TACT vice-president, Frank Ke states: "We recognised the high quality and professionalism expended in delivering these state-of-the-art cargo handling system and ETV systems that are operating in our terminals both in Kaohsiung and Taoyuan. We appreciate the positive attitude and dedication shown by the Siemens team."

In 2011, TACT commissioned Siemens with the extension of its material handling system for air cargo unit load devices (ULD) at Taiwan’s Taoyuan and Kaohsiung Airports, which Siemens originally delivered between 2008 and 2011.

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is among the ten busiest cargo handling airports worldwide, handling more than two million metric tons in 2014. It is served by more than 15 airfreight carriers.

TACT offers extensive space and latest standard operating procedures for ground air-cargo handling services in the import, export, consolidation and transshipment of airfreight. Its warehouses at Taoyuan International Airport comprise more than 133,000m², and are located near to its 12 freighter aprons.

Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics has also recently installed cargo handling systems in Dubai, for Emirates SkyCargo at Dubai International and Al Maktoum Airports, and has been awarded a contract to equip the new cargo terminal at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul by Turkish Airlines.
