Friars has recently won the tender to supply the new airfield signage to Gibraltar Airport, the project consists of ten internally illuminated sign cabinets using tungsten halogen lamps, and six micro prismatic reflective (non-illuminated) plate signs.
As an urgent requirement Friars has just completed the new airfield signage for Camp Bastion in Afghanistan where some of our troops are based. The project consisted of 54 new micro prismatic reflective airfield signs complete with all the frangible couplings and mounting hardware. The total order was turned around in under two weeks to enable the new runway to be operational and on schedule.
During 2011 airports will have the opportunity to specify ‘solar LED airfield signage’. Friars is the UK distributor for the ADB / Carmanah brand of solar aviation lighting – the solar aviation range has numerous environmental advantages over conventional equipment and also eliminates the need for trenching and cabling. They also offer limited air traffic disruption and function immediately upon installation.
